The Independence of Angola:
Angola's Progress Towards Sovereignty:
-1891: Angola is officially realized as a Portuguese colony by other European governments. Portugal then extends its power beyond the borders of angola,bringing in more goods and stuff to export.
-1900s: Many africans and afro-portuguese are pushed out of commercial and administrative activities which had originally been dominated by them (minimizing opportunities for them to reach success economically)
-Following this, nationalist movements then begin to emerge in Luanda and other cities, speaking against slavery (labor), racism, and the abuse, and for the independence of Angola.
-1951: Angola becomes official overseas province for portugal, and its inhabitants endure more mistreatment by portuguese officials
-In ten years, the tensions had risen so highly that in 1961, that there was a rebellion against the portuguese involving several guerrilla operations against portuguese government
-The nationalist groups were also competing for power amongst themselves.

- Two main groups were still competing for power: the MPLA (Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola) and the FNLA (National Front for the Liberation of Angola).
