2002

In 2002, a final peace treaty was signed between UNITA and MPLA, ending the destructive civil war in Angola. The Angola Civil War broke out in 1975. the FNLA, MPLA and UNITA were fighting each other for control over Angola. Other super powers and countries became involved in the warfare. In 1991, MPLA and UNITA signed peace treaties. But in 1992 the war broke out again. Yet another peace treaty was signed in 1994, but again the war continued in 1998. It wasn't untill 2002 when peace finally came to Angola.
2005
China Premier visited Angola and promised more loans in return for more oil supplies.
2006
Angola became the largest petroleum supplier to China and the sixth largest oil exporter to the United States.
In August, the government signed a peace agreement with a separatist group in the northern enclave of Cabinda.
2007
Angola joined OPEC, which stands for Organization for Petroleum Exporting Countries, an organization that helps protect oil-producing countries.
2010
The FATF, an international organization which campaigns against money laundering and terrorist financing, placed tier-two, graduated sanctions on Angola because of Angola’s failure to commit to international standards on anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism.
